Now it’s official: putting hundreds of thousands of people under siege and bombing them from the air makes their life a living hell.

Casually reading the news, one might conclude that Israelis are all a bunch of racist lunatics, willing to take their vile ideology of Zionism beyond any border known to humanity. While to an approximation this is indeed the case, there are a few exceptions. Jonathan Shapira is one such good soul. A former pilot in Israel’s air force, Shapira was expelled from the force after declaring that he will refuse to carry out missions that have no moral or legal basis and has moved on to become one of Israel’s fiercest critics, fighting against the evils of Zionism tirelessly.

Today, in a brilliant act of protest, Shapira, together with a fellow activist from Poland, sprayed the remaining walls of the Warsaw Ghetto with the slogan (in Hebrew): “Free all Ghettos”. That ghetto in Warsaw, which saw one of the only uprisings by Jewish interns, has been freed many years ago. The ghetto Shapira is referring to is Gaza.

The link between the atrocities committed by the Nazis in Warsaw and the crimes committed now by Israel in Gaza is not Shapira’s invention. Rather, it is the essence of modern, secular Jewish nationalism. Israel has been using the Holocaust not only as international propaganda, but as an indoctrination tool. Israeli citizens are brainwashed from kindergarten with the idea that the holocaust is holy, and that it justifies the crimes Israel is committing for decades. When Israeli mothers send their children to the army, to terrorize the Palestinian population, it’s the holocaust that’s on their mind. It is the “moral” carte blanche of Zionism.

“It would be befitting that Israeli delegations will see that Israeli and international peace activists have been here before them and left a message”, says Shapira. In addition to the Hebrew slogan, they’ve also added “Free Gaza + Palestine” and hung the Palestinian flag.

Well done Jonathan Shapira! A few millions more like you and Israel might even deserve its place among civilised nations.

Following are three news items from the last week about the lives of Jews and Palestinians in Hebron, from diverse sources. The first is from the weekly column of Haaretz journalist Gideon Levi, one of very few Israeli journalists dedicated to documenting the miserable lives of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. The second is from the Saudi English language online newspaper Arab News, a moderate pro-Palestinian, pro-Peace publication. The third is from Channel 10 News, the Israeli equivalent to FOX News, mainsteam right-wing pro-Israeli news. I am providing a translation of that item since I haven’t found any English language source for this item (and kudus to channel 10 for publishing it).

Security forces in Hebron are concerned about the safety of religious Jews who make their way daily from Qiryat Arba to the cave of the patriarchs. So concerned, in fact, that they’ve decided to seal the homes of the Palestinian residents overlooking the road

Security forces in Hebron recently sealed the homes of Palestinian residents who live on the road connecting Qiryat Arba and the cave of the patriarchs out of concern for the safety of religious Jews using the road on the way to prayer.

The reisdents are forced to live in this condition for many weeks, fighting their way between slopes and blocks. Essentially, the residents of the Jabber neighborhood live in cages.

They contacted human rights organization “Yesh Din” but justice fails to emerge. “My elderly mother is sick and we have to carry her around through walls” tells one of the furious residents to channel 10 news.

“The prayers road” was constructed in order to create a shortcut for religious Jews walking to the cave of the patriarchs on Fridays and Saturdays on foot. Initially, Palestinians were forbidden from using the road on these days. Eventually, the windows of their homes were sealed, and now the entrances to their homes were sealed as well.
